Frequently asked questions
Do I need a robots.txt file?
It's optional, but most sites benefit from one. It tells crawlers which paths to skip (admin pages, search results, duplicate URLs) and points them to your sitemap. If you have nothing to block, a simple allow-all plus a sitemap line is fine.
What's the difference between robots.txt and a noindex tag?
robots.txt asks crawlers not to crawl a path; a noindex meta tag asks them not to index a page. To keep a page out of Google, use noindex — and don't also block it in robots.txt, or Google can't see the noindex.
Where do I put the robots.txt file?
At the root of your domain, so it's reachable at https://yoursite.com/robots.txt. It only applies to the exact host and protocol it's served from.
Do you store what I generate?
No. Your robots.txt is built entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent to or stored on our servers. There's no signup, and analytics are anonymous, cookieless page-view counts only.
